Lambert Law Office in Vancouver, WA for Divorce Representation

In the State of Washington a divorce is called a “Dissolution.” One of the final legal documents that you will obtain from the court is called a “Decree of Dissolution.” When this document is finalized, your marriage is officially over.

Washington is a “no fault state.” This simply means that you don’t have to prove to the courts that either spouse did something wrong.

This is not true in England.

The New York Times published an article listing some of the reasons given “across the pond” for divorce.

Read the article in its entirety here.

Here is a summary of some of the reasons customers wanted to get a divorce.

  • One woman refused to dress in a Klingon costume and speak to her husband in Klingon. This was considered a dispute of such a magnitude as to justify divorce.
  • Another man declared that his wife had maliciously and repeatedly served him his least favorite dish, tuna casserole.
  • One man accused his wife of spitefully tampering with the TV antenna and throwing away his cold cuts.
  • One woman said her husband usurped her control of the washing machine.
  • One woman complained that her husband hadn’t spoken to her in 15 years, only using Post-it notes when he wanted something.
  • One petitioner complained that her husband’s pet tarantula, Timmy, had to sleep in a glass case next to the matrimonial bed.
  • Changing the channel too fast was another grievance.
  • Atrocious body odor was listed as unreasonable behavior.
