How to Pull Yourself Out of the Divorce-Induced Funk

After a divorce in Vancouver WA, it’s totally normal to feel the blues. Can you really do something positive while you are feeling so down? Of course! Our Vancouver WA Family Law Attorney shares with us how:

  • happy person after divorceWrite a hello letter- In this letter you’ll write about all the things you’re happy about not having to deal with any more and all the new things you’re looking forward to. The hello letter is a great way to start setting your sights on what’s good about now.
  • Lose yourself in an activity- Swimming, reading, knitting and other repetitive tasks can create some space between you and the sadness that are feeling.
  • Clean out and organize- If your home is a constant reminder of what used to be, begin cleaning out and replacing items from your old life. Out with the old and in with the new!
  • Make a “Self-Esteem File”- Ask your close friends and trusted family members to create a list of your positive attributes. Place the lists in a manila folder and label it My Self-Esteem File. Keep it handy, because every time someone complements you, jot the warm fuzzy down on a Post-It, and stick it into the file.
  • Stay healthy- Eating a balanced diet and regular exercise are a great way to naturally fight depression by increasing the amount of healthy chemicals, such as serotonin, in your brain.
