Finding a Positive Outlook on Life

happinessIn the aftermath of divorce, it is common to fall into depression and despair. However, this can also be a time for self-discovery. A time where you can begin to build a new and better life. The key to recovery is understanding that it is entirely up to you. You can choose despair, or you choose to accept your new life and be determined to use the divorce as a pathway to happiness.

Here are a few steps to help you embrace and accept your new life:

  • Find ways to boost your self esteem in a healthy way. Some ideas are through physical fitness, taking up new hobbies, or joining clubs where you can spend time with people who enjoy the same things as you.
  • Consider your divorce to be a lesson in self-awareness.  You can now choose to be much more aware of your own strengths and weaknesses as a partner, and what you want out of any future partners you consider.
  • Find a way to forgive your ex and yourself.  Forgiveness is a gift to yourself as much as it is a gift to the person who wronged you.  When you choose to forgive, you let go of pain that causes anger and keeps you from feeling happy within yourself.
