No one is perfect. No one is the perfect parent, but there are some things you really should never say to your children. Some verbal mistakes are worse than others. Parenting expert Chick Moorman, the author of Parent Talk: How to Talk to Your Child in Language That Builds Self-Esteem and Encourages Responsibility, gives some examples of some statements your child should not hear from you.
- “If you don’t stop doing that, I’m going to leave you here.”
- “Why can’t you be more like your brother or sister?”
- “You’re the reason we got divorced.”
- “Because I said so. That’s why.”
- “Here let me do that for you.”
- “You should be ashamed of yourself.”
- “We never wanted you anyway.”
