Social media—Facebook, Twitter, emails—are being used more and more often in legal battles.
Washington State lawyers, like attorneys all over the country, are warning clients that what happens online is often showing up in court. Most Vancouver, WA readers recognize that what they post on a social media website can hurt their court case. Lambert Law wants to emphasize this point.
In Milwaukee a father’s Facebook page is being used during a child-support case.
The father of a 6-year-old girl posted a picture of himself holding large amounts of cash. The message associated with this photo read, “Betcha babydady ain’t jackin like this.”
In another photo, the man can be seen in front of what appears to be London’s Buckingham Palace.
Having money and traveling is certainly not a crime and is often the type of thing displayed on Facebook. This, however, was probably not a wise post for this particular man since he has consistently insisted that he doesn’t have the resources necessary to pay child support.
When questioned, the dad said that he was just posing with someone else’s money and that the “European Vacation” was faked with help of an “app.”
The mother and local district attorney are not convinced and are using the photos as evidence that he can indeed pay court-ordered child support.
Vancouver, WA attorney, Crystal Lambert-Schroeder wants every court case to be tried on the merit of the case and not on a social media post that may or may not be accurate.
She encourages her clients to watch what they put out there for the public to read.
